Your Child’s First Dental Visit | Children's Dental Center of Southeast Iowa

A Fun, and Stress-Free First Visit

At Children’s Dental Center of Southeast Iowa, we understand that a child’s first dental visit is a big milestone—for both parents and little ones! Our goal is to make this experience fun, comfortable, and educational, setting the foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles.

From the moment you walk into our kid-friendly office, our team will ensure that your child feels safe, welcomed, and excited about their dental care journey.

The First Visit

Your child's first visit may include an examination, dental prophylaxis (cleaning), fluoride treatment, & x-rays appropriate to his or her age. Although these procedures are standard, we may decide to do less on a very young or fearful child.

We hope that this first visit will be a pleasant experience. You can help us by promoting a positive attitude toward dentistry in general. It is important to remember that each child is an individual and his or her behavior is not always predictable. The reactions of other family members, the child's general responses to previous medical treatment and new situations can act as predictors of future experiences.

If You Have Been Referred to Us...

If another dentist has already seen your child, the first visit to our office will involve treatment planning and getting acquainted.

What if the visit to the other dentist was unpleasant?

You can help turn that bad experience into a good one by explaining that we only see children and the office has been designed for children's special needs.

If your child has many questions, tell him or her to ask us; this helps to establish rapport. Finally, if the referring dentist x-rayed your child's teeth, please ask that the x-rays be forwarded to our office.
